Blown away by this exhibition of the work of Albert Richards: Official War Artist.

An Official War Artist and D-Day hero, he was born in Liverpool and attended the Wallasey School of Art before enlisting in 1940.

March 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the death of Albert Richards.

On until December at The Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead.

1: self portrait.
2, 3, 4: early work from the period when he was at the Wallasey School of Art.

4: self portrait by Stanley Spencer, an artist much admired by Richards.

5, 6: A searchlight battery 1942

7, 8: Camouflaged tents, one of several pieces which were very difficult to take an image of, all stunningly beautiful despite the subject matter.

9 to 14 inclusive ...one of my favourite pieces in this gem of an exhibition. The orchard by pass 1944.

15 & 16: Stone Quarry at Delivrande, 1944.

Yesterday I went to the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead, to see the Philip Wilson Steer exhibition.

on until the 20th December.

1: My favourite piece in the exhibition, St Ives, turned out to be by a contemporary of his, Mary McCrossan. I'd happily have brought it home with me.

Also back up on the wall, the vintage clock. Purchased on Etsy, it's no longer electric, but fitted with a battery mechanism. Just love the look of it.

The wee robin tile was a present from a friend in Germany, it's been propped up on a shelf for quite some time, but has now found a new place to perch.
