Love this!
It's called 'Pelagos' and was made in 1946, Hepworth used Elm for this sculpture - that curve, the finish, the pale, pale cool white interior juxtaposed with the warmth of the Elm - and well, it's just perfection.
I also love her later works in ‘Guarea’ wood - called 'Delphos' and 'Corinthos', named after locations in Greece - the huge chunks of the Nigerian tropical hardwood were a gift to Hepworth in the early 50's, and gave her the opportunity to work on a monumental scale.
